If you are lucky enough to have a close friend that is one of the most important people in your life, you are truly blessed. Best friends are like treasures that should be cherished forever, and you should never take them for granted.
I grew up next door to my best friend - we met when we were toddlers, and we have been inseparable ever since. Other kids called us the twins, because we were always together during recess, lunch, after school, and any other time. We went to high school together, and even though we went to college in different towns, we always stayed in touch.
One day, she was in a serious car accident, and even though she is OK now, I was terrified at the idea that I could actually lose my closest friend. While she was in the hospital, I visited every day and brought her a card with a poem that was a lot like this one. She really appreciated knowing that she means the world to me, and she has treasured that poem ever since.
Life is short, and we should always be prepared for the unexpected to happen. I have learned never to let a day go by without telling my loved ones how much they mean to me.
