Love and Friendship
Love is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?
The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again,
And who will call the wild-briar fair?
Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now,
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That, when December blights thy brow,
He still may leave thy garland green.

That is probably one of my favorite friendship poems that I have ever read. The reason that I like it so much is because it talks about how true friendship never dies down and will always be there for us. While love may fade and disappear, friendship is stronger often times. This makes sense. Friendship is surely stronger and more likely to survive and provide us with comfort, than a short infatuation or fling. But at the same time a true and strong love is also capable of being very strong.

True friendship brings value and riches into our lives. I'm not talking about monetary riches. I'm talking about riches of the mind, soul, and heart. That's the message that I received from this poem by Edgar A. Guest.
