Friendship Poems Famous People

Welcome to the friendship poems famous people page. The wonderful friendship poem that is featured on this page is titled "Be A Friend". Edgar Guest wrote this poem about a hundred years ago, but it still makes a lot of sense.

Be a Friend

Be a friend. You don't need money:
Just a disposition sunny;
Just the wish to help another
Get along some way or other;
Just a kindly hand extended
Out to one who’s unbefriended;
Just the will to give or lend,
This will make you someone’s friend.

Be a friend. You don't need glory.
Friendship is a simple story.
Pass by trifling errors blindly,
Gaze on honest effort kindly,
Cheer the youth who’s bravely trying,
Pity him who’s sadly sighing;
Just a little labor spend
On the duties of a friend.

Be a friend. The pay is bigger
(Though not written by a figure)
Than is earned by people clever
In what’s merely self-endeavor.
You'Il have friends instead of neighbors
For the profits of your labors;
You'Il be richer in the end
Than a prince, if you're a friend.

What is the overall message that you go from this poem? To me, the author is saying that friendships are not that difficult to maintain and grow. It takes a little bit of effort, but the rewards will make anyone blessed with true friends very rich in the heart and soul. This far exceeds any material riches that a prince or one of monetary wealth possesses.

Not to long ago I read somewhere, that these days, the average person has less meaningful and close friendships than individuals had even 20 years ago. Sure we may all have hundreds or even thousands of friends on facebook or followers on twitter. But from all those people, how many are your real friends that know you well and that you interact with in person?

I think we need to stop collecting virtual friends (Fans is the proper desccription for me) and go out there and develop meaningful, lifelong relationships with people. I hope that you had fun reading the above poem here from the friendship poems famous people page.
