Foot

If you want my true opinion,
Then I insist you stay!
I don't want you to leave,
So you must not move away!

That may seem rather bossy,
But that's just the way things go,
Just stay here, do as I say!
You must not tell me no!

You know it's so much better here
So unpack and stay put!
I mean it! I am serious!
I'm putting down my foot!

Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things to do, especially to someone who has been close to you for years. A little bit of humor can help lighten the moment while still letting your friends know how much you care.

When my best friend and her husband moved to another state to pursue a job opportunity, I was really upset. We saw each other every day, and I couldn't imagine getting through a week without one of our coffee dates. In a way, I almost felt like she was abandoning me for her exciting new life. But I did not want to damage our friendship, so I kept that to myself and planned a great going-away party.

Everyone we knew showed up, and people brought all kinds of cards and gifts for my friend and her husband. She told me afterward that one of her favorites was the card I gave her with this poem inside - she was really sad about leaving her friends and her familiar surroundings, and the words of the poem made her laugh and feel better about the move.
