When I saw this poem, I couldn't help but think of something that happened to my cousin a few years ago. She has a friend named AJ, who has actually been her brother's best friend for years; whenever her brother went to visit her at college, AJ went along with him. We all used to tease her about it, but she never believed that AJ was really coming to see her.
They have always been good friends, hanging out together on weekends and vacations, and wherever you saw one, you would be sure to see the other. It has been the family joke for years that they would get married, but they always denied that they had romantic feelings for each other.
Then one day, my cousin announced that she had found a job in another state, and she would be moving in just a few months. You could tell that AJ was crushed, but he didn't say anything. The next day, though, he showed up at her apartment with a bunch of flowers with a piece of paper tucked inside.
The paper had this poem written on it - pretty soon, they were both crying, and before we knew it, they were engaged.
