I Believe
Picture me with pom-poms here,
Waving them and shouting cheers,
I'll be shouting rah-rah-rah,
Maybe even sis-boom-bah!
I believe in you, my friend,
And will cheer you till the end,
I know that you are very strong,
And I am here to lean upon!
I know that you can reach your dreams,
Nothing's as hard as it seems,
Just set your mind on what you seek,
Your talent is just so unique!

Any time you face a challenge, whether it is an athletic event, a job search, or a personal goal that you have set for yourself, you always do better with friends who stand behind you and cheer you on. No matter how much you believe in yourself, it always helps to have someone else believe in you and cheer you on.
The poem here, for example, is a great inspirational note for a high school athlete who is facing great expectations during a championship game. My kids played basketball in high school, and I remember how the pressure could get to them. With the whole school hoping for a victory in the division playoffs, they and the other varsity team members were under a lot of stress.
With the advantage of experience, I knew that they would be fine no matter what, but I wanted them to know that everyone believed in them and stood behind them, even if the outcome was not what they wanted. Some of the other parents and I organized a pizza party for the team, and we passed out poems and words of encouragement to all the boys.
The kids played their hearts out at the championship game, and their confidence really showed. They won the game easily, and the basketball team members were heroes for the rest of that school year. While it was their talent that got them through, knowing that they had our support was a big deal to our boys. You can be a cheerleader, too, with poems about friendship and inspirational quotes.
