For Everyone

The best thing about friendship,
Is that it's for everyone,
No matter what you look like,
You can join in on the fun!

A dog can make friends with a cat,
A cat befriends a bird,
A bird befriends a rhino,
Though that sounds simply absurd!

If animals can become friends,
And simply learn to play,
Then I think that can teach us
To be kinder every day!

My little son, who just turned four, is in a preschool class with a really fantastic teacher. Miss Joan is like a special gramma to all the kids she cares for, and she has something new to teach them every day.

This past month, the kids have been working on the theme of friendship, which is so important even to children of that age. The class has learned about sharing, caring, and getting along with friends to get them ready for kindergarten next year.

One day, as I was taking my turn as parent helper for the class, Miss Joan read the kids this poem. It really made them giggle, and they were so much fun to watch. I am so glad that my little guy has such a great teacher, and that he is having such a wonderful experience making friends and learning every day.

This poem is perfect for children and grownups alike, with its lighthearted approach to the theme of friendship and how we can all be friends, no matter what our differences seem to be.
