When things seem bleak, you must push on,
Do not give up, you must be strong.
I know you have it within you,

One of the best things you can do for your friends is to offer them support when they need it most. It is easy to be a friend during the good times, when all is well; it is much more difficult to show your friendship when you have to go out of your way to help someone in need.
This poem makes me think of my friend, Andrea, who has been there for me ever since we were roommates in college. When we were sophomores, I was going through a pretty hard time. I had just broken up with my long-term boyfriend, I was taking a heavy course load, and I was beginning to have doubts about whether I wanted to continue with my major.
Andrea was so patient with me, listening to me, putting up with my tears, and doing all she could to keep me going. It was because of her support that I was able to find the strength to move forward. I changed my major, decided that relationships and college didn't mix, and began to enjoy life again.
One of the things she did for me was to leave this poem on my desk for me to find when I came in from classes one evening. Reading it reminded me that I had good friends who cared and who would be there for me through anything that happened. Poems on friendship can inspire and encourage, even in the darkest hour, and remind your friends that there is a light at the end of the trouble.
